FEATURED EVENTS:Pro hockey to debut in 1000 Islands
by admin ~ January 6th, 2010. Filed under: Featured Events.The 1000 Islands will be home in November 2010 to the Privateers, one of four charter teams in the upstart Federal Hockey League.
The league, formed by professionals with backgrounds in Junior Hockey, the Arena Football League and others, was launced in December 2009. Teams in the inaugeral season will compete in Alexandria Bay, 1000 Islands; Ottawa, Ontario; Rome, New York; and Danbury, Connecticut.
Each team will play 30 home games. The 1000 Islands Privateers will compete at the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center in Alexandria Bay. League tickets will average $7-14. The team is offering life-time-price season tickets for $150 until February 14, 2010.
The league will be classified as single “A” and draw players from the collegiate and Canadian junior ranks.
Professional hockey in Northern New York is just one more reason to visit the 1000 Islands in the winter, when outdoor recreation and indoor fun rule.
