Cornwall
Known
as the “Friendly Seaway City,” Cornwall is the
hub of the Seaway Valley. Municipal docking is located at
the foot of the Downtown and Le Village Shopping Districts,
with specialty and grocery shopping, dining, banking and many
personal services such as hairdressing and shoe repair. Nearby
you’ll find Lamoureux Park, home of the Cornwall Community
Museum and open air concerts throughout the summer.
The Seaway Valley celebrates a rich pioneer influence which is featured in the region’s museums. Upper Canada Village demonstrates what life was like on a late 1800s working farm. If more recent history is your passion, the Lost Villages Museum is a vivid reminder of the power of the mighty St. Lawrence River, housing artifacts and many photos from six villages lost to flooding as a result of the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway in the mid to late 1950s.
Cyclists
will enjoy the outdoors on the Seaway Valley’s waterfront
recreational path—75 kilometers of path from Morrisburg
to Lancaster featuring fabulous scenery, picnic and camping
areas, waterfront parks, beaches, museums and many tourist
attractions.
Family activities abound with mini-putt, kiddy kars, beaches, batting cages, paintball, bowling, and dinosaurs. Yes, dinosaurs. Prehistoric World in Morrisburg features over 50 lifesize recreations. Festivals and special events include the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, and the Lilac Festival and Worldfest in Cornwall.
Upper Canada Village
Upper
Canada Village includes over 40 historic buildings on a 50-hectare
site along the River. The bustling town is filled with costumed
interpreters who recreate the pioneering spirit of an 1860s
community village.
