Brockville is home to Canada’s first railway tunnel, built between 1854 and 1860. Long unused, the railway tunnel is being repurposed to become an exciting and active attraction enabling visitors to enjoy walking, jogging, cycling or ride a tour train through the tunnel from end-to-end. The Tunnel, as part of Brockville’s new Railway Tunnel Park, will become an integral part of Brockville’s Brock Trail system.
The Tunnel will open for public use Aug. 11 as part of Brockville’s celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. The tunnel will stay open during daylight hours, spring through fall.
